The region that interests us most in ethnographic terms is Eastern Poland. Wooden Orthodox churches, roadside shrines with women gathered round them singing the May songs of praise to the Virgin Mary, crosses scattered as if discarded by the roadsides, forgotten cemeteries stumbled upon in forests – all this creates a unique atmosphere of places where time came to a halt many years ago...
We were enchanted by Podlasie, Polesie, the Beskid Niski and the Bieszczady..., where people and their environment weave an ongoing tale of the life and doings of backwaters far from the bustle of even the smallest towns.
